Concept Statement
Malath is a recreational community center that is designated for those with psychological disorders where they explore healing through communicating, sharing, and partaking in different activities selected for them.
What, Why, and How?
Whats is the problem? The stereotype surrounding mental health in Qatar which is influenced by individual’s religious and cultural beliefs.
Why is it important? Mental health social stigma has been a barrier for help-seeking surrounding people with mental disorders in Qatar.
How can it be resolved? By normalizing the matter by creating a community center where everyone is welcome to visit, socialize, and participate in activities that target people’s well-being.
Site Analysis
Marsa Katara is the selected site for Malath due to its strategic location where it is located in a popular area. However, it is away from the crowd, giving it audience while maintaining some privacy.
Conceptual and Schematic Phase
Design decisions were derived from three main parts: implementing Qatari design elements, enhancing communication between the center visitors, and encouraging people to convey their emotions.
